One True King

One True King (Ken) started his career with a win in a Maiden point to point at Barbury Castle in 2019. After this, he had several seasons running under rules with Nigel Twiston-Davies when he won three hurdles and four chases.

He came to Bea Coward’s Barrow Street yard two seasons ago, running in the colours of Sarah Shields, since when has had an Open win and three other top three places. Sarah has now kindly offered him to the Barrow Street Racing Club so we will continue to run him in Opens, Novice Riders and Conditions races.

Diamond Appeal

Diamond Appeal (Amos) will have his second season for the Barrow Street Racing Club. Purchased from Monbeg at the Doncaster Spring sales last year, Amos is still a Maiden but has had a second and a fourth from his three runs last season to back up two fourth places in Irish point to points the previous season.

Bea Coward will continue training from our base at Barrow Street, near Mere on the borders of Wiltshire, Dorset and Somerset. Bea has access to superb grass gallops on the local downs plus a great ménage and schooling fences. She also uses the all weather gallops at Sutton Veny a few miles away.

The horses continue to benefit from Bea’s personal attention, adding her dressage and eventing experience to her racing knowledge. The horses want for nothing with great attention to detail, their routine includes regular water treadmill sessions and physio visits.

Since Bea started training in the 2017-2018 season she has had 100 point to point starts returning 16 wins, 23 seconds and 19 thirds, a top three strike rate of nearly 60%. She has also had two hunter chase wins from seven starts with Douglas Longbottom at Cheltenham in 2025 and Ultimate Survivor at the Warwick ‘Cheltenham’ meeting in 2026.

The Barrow Street yard benefits from the services of several of the top jockeys. Last season, the Racing Club were delighted to secure the services of regular jockey Martin ‘Fly’ McIntyre, plus Anna Johnston and Aimee Jones, with Darren Andrews and Paddy Barlow also riding for Bea.

Barrow Street Racing Club continues to be a means of being directly involved in point to pointing at a very reasonable cost. There is no capital outlay and the maximum of twenty members pay a fixed monthly fee of just £100, this covers all running costs including training, keep, grazing, stables, transport, shoeing, vets, entries, gallop fees etc.

We plan to run in a few of the pre-Christmas meetings, so training and therefore costs will start in August and run until the end of our season, which was in May this year. Prize money will go towards a summer social event.

We provide regular updates by e-mail, WhatsApp and Facebook, with Bea deciding where and when the horses run. Owners’ passes will be drawn by ballot and we provide members with refreshments on race days. We will also keep you informed about other horses in the yard.
